Tree Perspective

24/7 Church

I often enjoy starting my Sunday morning with a walk in the Woods. This morning, while I was out there, I was reminded of a conversation I had with one of my employees, several years ago.
As a landscape contractor, I had 3 guys working for me. The youngest of these fellows had recently become focused on reconnecting with his religion. One day he came to me and said, “Pete, you no go to church?”.
“No, I don’t go to church”, I replied.
“Pete, why you no go to church”, he asked.
After but a quick check with how best to word this, I trusted that I would do fine just shooting from the hip. So, I told him that I have no need to “go to church”. I told him that I am in fact “in church” all the time, whether I be at home, at work, or wherever I am.
He looked at me with this expression that could only be translated as one of discovering a completely different concept than he had ever considered. I did, however, notice a bit of a light go on in his head, indicating that he was at least mulling over the idea.
I’m actually grateful for the opportunity to share this way of being with him.
