Passively Wishing

“Be careful what you wish for”. Yes, it’s true. Whether secretly, overtly, or passively, what you wish for will manifest in some way. We all know about secretly wishing for something special to happen, or to receive some special gift, or that the teacher will neglect to bring the test to class and we won’t have to take it. We all know about overtly sharing with others, or being very definite in ourselves as to what we wish for taking place, or receiving. How many of us really recognize how often we “passively” wish for something.
Today, for me, would be a perfect example. I was told, yesterday, that I will have today off from work, due to the expectation that today will be an especially rainy day, making working outside an especially difficult day. I called one friend, with whom I have worked on many occasions and enjoy working with, and it benefits his business whenever I can work there, to see if he could use an extra hand today. I haven’t heard back from him and therefore that won’t work out. Yet, while I don’t want to lose a day’s work, with winter coming on, I really didn’t want to work out in the rain today, and so was passively wishing that it wouldn’t pan out.
Then, I contacted another friend, who is in the process of going out to cut and bring in firewood right now, to see if he would like me to help him bring in a load. While my motivation here is that firewood gathering has always been something I have enjoyed (albeit hard work), and helping a friend, just for the sake of helping friend, has always been something I have enjoyed, I really would rather do this work with him on a day that was not likely to be rainy. So, I was passively wishing that this also would not pan out. He contacted me, this morning, to say that in view of the weather report, he wasn’t going to go out for wood, today.
I cannot tell you how many times this type of scenario has played out, for me. As I notice the times that I have gotten what I wished for, on this passive wish level, I am noticing how often I passively wish for something to come to bear. This passive wishing can often have negative effects on our lives. Yet, in becoming increasingly aware of this manner of wishing, we can effectively acknowledge what we truly wish for in our lives, on the grander scheme, as well as the simple day to day events. For me, I intend to pay greater attention to what I truly wish for, what I truly desire to manifest in this lifetime, and let those “passive” wishes step out of the shadows, in order that I be able to identify my true desires in this lifetime and let those wishes come to life.
