Tree Perspective

The Woods are especially Quiet

The Woods are especially quiet, this morning. The Sun is basking in the enhancement it brings to the lives of the Trees, Plants, Birds and other Critters of the Forest.

Slightly warming air pushes light currents up the hillsides. Twinkling leaves seem to be the only sign of movement save for the Sun induced sparkle of Spider’s web, floating on the Forest tide.

Though I am traveling through the Woods in fairly quiet fashion, whenever I stop to feel around I hear Douglass Squirrel speaking up in a way that seems to indicate, “move along”. It seems as though I am invited to be in the Woods, this morning, yet only so long as I don’t tarry anywhere I am no specifically drawn to do so. Finch is nearby, with his long drawn out conversation so loud it almost hurts my ears. Other birds have their own chats. Yet, all become quiet when I stop with intent to see who and where they are. Again, that sense of “move along”.

I am invited to pause and witness Snail scaling a Douglass Fir, withdrawing his antennae for a moment of noticing my eye level presence. Not missing a step, he continues on his way, extending his antennae and bidding me to move on.

It hasn’t been until my sitting and writing here that the morning breeze has rustled up into dancing Trees and swaying understory. This feeling as a sign of welcome and gratitude for my honoring this Sacred Space.
